We’re a group of Willamette Valley neighbors opposed to the proposed AI data center that is allowed to locate here by zoning right without adequate controls to prevent environmental harms, excess utility consumption, and irreparable community damage. We are fired up residents from all over Salem, all walks of life.

We oppose any hyperscale project that:

  • Consumes excessive quantities of power and water,
  • Emits constant noise to the detriment of wildlife and adjacent neighbors,
  • Generates toxic, chemical laden waste water that could contaminate underground and surface water supplies,
  • Uses fossil fuel powered back-up generators that spew  emissions during monthly testing or during power failures, or
  • Contributes to massive strip mining necessary to manufacture the tremendous quantities of batteries touted as less environmentally detrimental than generators.

Once the project was announced at the July 13, 2026, Council meeting, the community backlash has been forceful and swift. People from all across the community have responded by attending Council meetings and speaking out online. The opposition is grassroots and organic. Many of us didn’t know each other before this project was revealed. We’re now organizing and committed to working together to oppose any hyper-scaled projects that detrimentally impact the environment, utility resources, water supplies, the surrounding community, and ultimately the local economy.
